Antique French Footed Terracotta Faisselle

A beautifully aged antique French faisselle in warm terracotta with a rich reddish-brown glaze. Traditionally used in the production and draining of fresh cheeses, faisselles have become beloved decorative objects for their rustic character and centuries-old utility.

This example features a slightly irregular silhouette rather than a perfect circle, with three small feet and hand-pierced drainage holes that speak to its handmade origins. The glossy glaze catches the light beautifully, while areas of wear and variation reveal the earthen clay beneath. Beautiful styled alongside other faisselles or layered into a collection of French pottery, and equally lovely repurposed as a sponge dish or candle holder for a tealight or votive.

Dimensions: 3 1/4" tall x 3 1/8" wide at base x 3 1/4" diameter opening

Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with use. A chip to the rim is present, along with three stable hairlines and areas of glaze chipping, as shown. The form is subtly irregular, lending the piece the character and charm of handmade pottery.
