Antique French Longchamp Majolica Oyster Plate

A beautifully detailed French majolica oyster plate by Longchamp featuring six shell-form wells surrounding a central sauce reservoir. Rich green glaze, basketweave detailing, and hand-painted blue accents give the piece wonderful depth and character.

Originally designed for serving oysters, these plates are equally lovely displayed on open shelving, incorporated into a wall collection, or styled atop coffee table books and consoles as decorative objects.

French oyster plates became especially popular during the late 19th century, when elaborate seafood service pieces were produced by celebrated faience and majolica makers such as Longchamp. Today, they remain highly sought after for their sculptural forms and decorative appeal.
