Vintage French Watercolor of Belle Croix Gate, Chazelles-sur-Lyon
Description
An original early to mid-20th century French watercolor on artist paper depicting the entry gate at Belle Croix in Chazelles-sur-Lyon, a village in the Loire region of central France.
The composition captures the fortified towers and arched gateway with a soft, muted palette and careful architectural detail. Rendered in shades of stone, mossy green, soft blue, and warm earth tones, it has a quiet, atmospheric quality that beautifully evokes the charm of provincial France.
The reverse is signed by the artist. I sourced this together with another watercolor by the same artist, both painted in a similarly delicate and precise style.
Currently shown in a contemporary bronze-tone wood frame, which complements the warm tones beautifully.
Sourced from France.
Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition with light wear consistent with age.
Measurements: 12.75" W x 10" H unframed.
