Description

An original 18th-century French engraving titled Ébéniste et Marqueterie ("Cabinetmaker and Marquetry"), illustrating furniture forms, woodworking details, marquetry designs, and the tools used by cabinetmakers.

Originally published as part of Diderot's Encyclopédie, one of the most important books of the French Enlightenment, this engraving documents the work of the ébéniste, or cabinetmaker, including furniture designs, marquetry, woodworking techniques, and the tools of the trade.

Drawn by Louis-Lucotte and engraved by Robert Bénard, two prominent contributors to Diderot's Encyclopédie. Bénard engraved thousands of plates for the publication and is regarded as one of the leading French engravers of the 18th century.

Presented in a gilt frame that complements the engraving beautifully.
