Antique French Estrées Black Transferware Plate by U&C Sarreguemines

An antique French black transferware plate in the Estrées pattern by Utzschneider & Cie Sarreguemines. The design features flowering chrysanthemums and delicate butterfly motifs framed by a dotted border.

Produced by Utzschneider & Cie, one of France's most celebrated ceramic manufacturers, these plates date to the turn of the 20th century. Founded in 1790 and led by the Utzschneider family beginning in 1800, the Sarreguemines faience works became internationally known for its finely decorated tableware and ceramics. The U&C mark identifies the plate as originating from the Utzschneider & Cie era of production, helping date it more specifically than later Sarreguemines marks.

The crisp black transfer decoration remains especially sought after by collectors today, while the butterfly motifs give the pattern a distinctive character not often found in traditional floral transferware.

Condition: Excellent antique condition with light wear consistent with age and use.
