Description
Small antique single-handled confit pot, sourced in France and dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Hand-thrown terracotta with a rich olive-green glaze band across the upper body, leaving the lower portion unglazed in the traditional southern French manner.
Originally used for preserving duck and other meats beneath a seal of rendered fat, confit pots were stored in cool cellars to keep food through the winter months. This example remains in excellent condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use.
