Antique French St. Amand Terre de Fer “Modern Style” Transferware Plate
Description
Antique French faience plate produced by St. Amand & Hamage Nord, circa 1896–early 1900s. Decorated in a deep blue-green transfer grapevine motif from the St. Amand “Modern Style” line, framed by a scrolling rope border. The pattern reflects late 19th-century decorative taste, with subtle early Art Nouveau influence in the stylized vines and fluid movement of the design.
The reverse bears the windmill mark reading “Nord St. Amand & Hamage – Modern Style,” along with debossed “Terre de Fer” in the clay body. In this context, “Modern Style” refers to turn-of-the-century production from the early 1900s.
Light utensil marks and surface wear consistent with age and use.
