Antique French Tonalist Miniature Seascape Oil Painting
Description
A moody miniature French seascape dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Painted in oil on canvas and mounted to board, with a low horizon line, scattered rocks, and softly suggested water and sky in deep brown, charcoal, and black tones.
The dark palette and expressive brushwork give it an almost abstract quality up close while still reading clearly as a coastal landscape from a distance. Its very small scale makes it especially easy to layer into a shelf, stack with other art, or hang in a grouping.
Sourced in France.
Age and wear throughout, including edge loss, scattered scratches, and craquelure consistent with age, all adding to its atmospheric character.
Sourced from France.
Measurements: Approximately 6 5/8" W x 4 7/8" H.
