Pair of Vintage Wood Barley Twist Candlestick Holders
Description
A pair of vintage wooden candlestick holders featuring carved open barley-twist stems, brass-tone metal cups, and green felt-covered bases. Open barley-twist designs are carved between the spirals, creating an intricate, openwork effect.
Barley-twist carving became popular in England during the 1600s, particularly on furniture, before seeing a revival during the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The name comes from its resemblance to twisted barley-sugar candy.
Likely mid-century.
Dimensions: 11 ¾” tall each
